Let's get started with some Homecoming discussion! Which character do you most identify with? Why?
I'd say that I identify most with Maybeth. Even though I can see parts of each character in myself, most of my traits coincide with Maybeth's. When I'm with my family, I'm usually pretty quiet (surprisingly). Sometimes, I surprise my siblings when I actually speak up for myself! I don't really take the lead, but I am usually happy to follow along with whatever is going on.

I'd say I identify most with Sammy. We both like to talk and we are both stubborn. We both like to do thing's alone and with our family. I can see myself like all of the other characters, but I am most like Sammy.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I am most in common with James. he is one of the smart one,s and does everything accordingly. There are things about him that I am not at all related to, however his general character position is quite similar to mine. Some specifics, like all characters are different. Everyone is their own person, with their own set of traits and actions. There are very few traits that go well with me for the other characters. Dicey especially, Sammy is also a bit different from myself.

I don't seem to talk that much, and I am not nearly as stubborn as Sammy. I do like to do things alone, however I am least bit similar to Sammy out of all the questions.

ReplyDeleteI identify most with James. We are both fairly smart and like to use that knowledge. We also are both fairly lazy and once we find a comfortable place to be. This is why I am most like James
ReplyDeleteI'd say I identify most with James. We both like to eat and we're never full. We both sometimes have a moment of brilliance but most of the time we listen as we're told. We both have a seance of being stealthy or sneaky. Even though I see all the characters inside of me, I think James and I are very alike.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying reading about how most people seem to relate mostly with James. I'm going to take it upon you guys that you are probably correct, and that fine with me. I seem to wonder if anyone will ever relate to Dicey or Maybeth other then Mrs. Bready herself.

You both do seem to enjoy being lazy as it appears. I happen to like to be more active and work flow. I don't like to be busy all the time, as being busy may not be as productive as doing it the correct way in 10 minutes, instead of taking too long and doing it incorrectly in 3 hours. When you do find a comfortable place to be, I can imagine that just about anyone would like to stay there. It is natural to want to be more physically and mentally comfortable then under stress or tension.

I can relate to being never full as well. I have my "moments of brilliance" too often to be called moments though. Usually all the time. I am well known as a walking dictionary and hard drive. I have a similar sense of being stealthy and sneaky as well, however I don;t seem to use that often, as I don't get enjoyment out of being stealthy around people, due to the fact that usually the punishment is far worse when your parents find out your being sneaky around them, or trying to be stealthy and do things you shouldn't, just like James does in this book.

I think I'm most like Dicey. We're both courageous and brave, and we handle taking control VERY WELL for our age! She's the sister that everyone looks up to, and that's the same with me,too. She's also VERY resourceful and smart, logical too. Same with me, except the logical part!

ReplyDeleteI think I am most like Dicey because I like being the leader, and I am very rarely a follower. Dicey isn’t one to give up easily neither am I. Also like Dicey i am about to have 3 other sibilings. She is about my age and even though I am a boy I think I can identify with her best

ReplyDeleteIt's not that we're the same age, but that we think alike.
I have a lot of common sense, as does she, but I don't get put into situations like she does, where I need to use it.
Also, I can be overwhelmed at times, depending on what's happening around me.
I think I mostly relate to Sammy because he keeps thinking that everything is going to get better. He thinks that if they walk far enough then they will find Momma. He never loses hope. That's why I think I'm like Sammy because I wouldn't stop looking, no matter how bad the chances were.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think I identify most with Dicey because to tell the truth, I've been mistaken as a guy while I had really short hair. Also, when I have a goal to reach, I always try to plan things out because it makes it easier on me. Another reason I think I identify most with Dicey is because when I'm on stress overload, for some reason I cry my eyes out and think but sometimes the thinking makes things worse.

ReplyDeleteI can relate with Sammy because he is stubbern, funny and always gets his way. Sammy is energetic and knows how and when to have fun. From expience he has learned how to do things.
ReplyDeleteI think I can mostly identify with Dicey because I like to kind of take charge of things and to be the leader. I'm smart enough to figure things out money wise if I need to by something.
ReplyDeleteI think I am most like Dicey because I am a good leader. I also take charge when I need to. I can very easily manage money. If I have just a few dollars I know how to spend it to get the most out of it.
ReplyDeleteI think I am more like Dicey than any of the other characters because I can take care of my siblings and do a good job at it. I also can manage my money well and not spend it all at once. And I guess I'm a good leader too!

ReplyDeleteI think I'm most like James. He's not a super social guy, but he's not super shy either. That's like me. He's also smart and wants to get good grades, like me. He also eats double- helpings of everything, and I'm sorry to say that that's what I do a lot. But I think I'm msot like James because I'm not like any of the other kids. I'm not super-stubborn like Sammy, or shy like Maybeth, and I'm not tough or a good leader like Dicey.

ReplyDeleteI would have to say I am like Dicey. I say this because I can be a great team leader and help my family through problems and I am easy to talk to. Also I am resposible and could take care of my family if there was ever a time they needed my help.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably say that I'm most like Sammy. He's rambunctiouse and doesnt like to sit still for long. He's also a little impatient and can sometimes be annoying. (I find i can be that way at times too. :) ) As much as I am like Sammy, I also hav a little bit of all of the characters in my personality. Dicey, because she can take control (I dont normally, but i can :) ) and can be responsible. James because I can be pretty smart once in a while and I'm hungry quite a lot. Well, it depends on the mood I'm in, I guess... and Maybeth because she likes to be quiet some times but can just come out and say something very insightful.
ReplyDeleteI am most like sammy because he is always wanting to know why something is happening. When I don't when something is happening I ask a lot of questions. Sammy is young and confused so he needs answers in his life.
ReplyDeleteI would say that I am most like Maybeth because she sits back and listens to what others say, but she is still independent at the same time. She does what she can for her family, but still has to think what's best for her, too, and how it will impact her and her family.
ReplyDeleteI am like Dicey. She is usually taking care of the rest of the family. She is very hardworking and has to make important decisions. I have to watch my young brother and sister when they come home from school.

I am most like James because he's really smart but desn't always thing things through all the way. That's just how I am sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI most identify Sammy. He is talkative, stubborn, and will stand up for himself. I'm stubborn at points and I'm EXTREMELY talkative. I'm not afraid to stand up for myself.
ReplyDeleteI think that the character I most identify with is Dicey. Every time i with my family or my friends somewhere I always kind of have to be the adult and watch over everyone and take care of them. When i am with my friends i have make sure that thye dont get into any trouble.
